Castile , Castile-Leon - kings from 1035-1516 - numbered 001 to 025;

The kingdom of Leon was founded 910. Already from 925 the Asturian kingdom was united with Leon.

In 1035 the kingdom of Castile and the kingdom of Aragon are founded.

Castile was first united with Leon and Asturias in 1037, when the areas were joined by Ferdinand I (001).
When he died in 1065 the country was divided to his two sons, until a daughter of the third generation had it united again. Her son kept the areas together, but his sons, Sancho III (006) and Ferdinand II (007) got it split up again.

Castile was finally united with Leon in 1230, when Ferdinand II's grandson, Ferdinand III, became king for both areas - one country inherited from his mother and one from his father.

The kingdoms of Castile and Aragon were united in 1479 and in 1492 the last Muslim bit was conquered and - except for Portugal - Spain now covered the whole Iberian peninsula.

From 1580 to 1640 Portugal is part of the Spanish monarchy.
